If you ask a future researcher, it will not be many years before we print products and spare parts at home. A 3D printer is not meant to print documents like a regular printer, but instead uses materials such as plastic.
When you buy a 3D printer, it is important to know your needs. To print large products, they must be very detailed and you should consider the characteristics you want the material to have. The smaller 3D printers can print in a volume of 150 mm x 150 mm x 150mm. If you choose a larger model, you can print up to a volume of 300 mm x 300 mm x 300 mm.
If you choose a model that prints in the FFF/FDM standard, you can print with the materials ABS or PLA. ABS is more flexible than PLA and must be printed on a heated plate. ABS has a high melting point and is therefore more suitable for spare parts and for professional use. PLA, on the other hand, is more popular among ordinary consumers. PLA is based on an organic material and is easier to work with for enthusiasts. If you plan to print massive products, PLA is the easiest to start with.
A more professional alternative for FFF/FDM printers is SLA. SLA stands for stereolithography and is based on laser rather than printing in layers. Instead of using plastic filament, a SLA printer uses resin liquid. For professional use, a SLA printer ofers a better and more precise result than FFF and FDM printers.
The large brands in 3D print are DaVinci, XYZprinting and 3D systems. We always try to have the latest products in our catalog but if you find something missing, please feel free to write to our support.
In a 3D CAD program you can design the different things you want to print. Some printers come with software that makes it very user-friendly to use the printer. However, if you buy a professional model, you will likely need to design all your products and models in a CAD program.
If you need to copy something from the real world, you can buy a 3D scanner to transform the things around you into 3D printed products.
