The Raspberry Pi 5 Model B with 16 GB of RAM is the latest and most powerful edition in the Raspberry Pi single-board computer series. Equipped with a 64-bit quad-core Arm Cortex-A76 processor running at 2.4GHz, this model delivers a significant performance boost compared to its predecessor, the Raspberry Pi 4. The CPU is up to three times faster, making it suitable for demanding industrial applications as well as a full-fledged desktop replacement.
The graphics capabilities have also been upgraded with a new 800MHz VideoCore VII GPU, supporting dual 4K displays at 60Hz via HDMI, providing smooth and sharp visuals. The Raspberry Pi 5 Model B also features a new image signal processor, developed in-house by Raspberry Pi, offering enhanced camera support and high image quality — ideal for computer vision projects and advanced camera setups.
The device is built on a new hardware design where the internally developed RP1 chip acts as a Southbridge, enabling faster I/O, improved peripheral performance, and more efficient data processing overall. Additionally, it includes a new four-lane 1.5Gbps MIPI transceiver system, which triples the total bandwidth and allows for connection of two cameras or displays. The Raspberry Pi 5 Model B – 16GB also supports high-speed SD cards and offers a single-lane PCI Express 2.0 interface for external devices requiring high bandwidth.

This is a full-size Raspberry Pi computer using silicon built in-house at Raspberry Pi. The RP1 "southbridge" provides the bulk of the I/O capabilities for Raspberry Pi 5 and delivers a step change in peripheral performance and functionality. Aggregate USB bandwidth is more than doubled, yielding faster transfer speeds to external UAS drives and other high-speed peripherals; the dedicated two-lane 1Gbps MIPI camera and display interfaces present on earlier models have been replaced by a pair of four-lane 1.5Gbps MIPI transceivers, tripling total bandwidth, and supporting any combination of up to two cameras or displays; peak SD card performance is doubled, through support for the SDR104 high-speed mode; and for the first time the platform exposes a single-lane PCI Express 2.0 interface, providing support for high-bandwidth peripherals.
